Biography
Elizabeth R. Bain is Of Counsel with Sinars Slowikowski Tomaska, practicing with both the Seattle and San Ramon offices. Her practice includes complex litigation defense focused on products liability and toxic torts, such as asbestos and talc. Elizabeth has substantive experience in aviation, transportation and trucking, construction defect, and premises liability litigation. Elizabeth is known for her creative problem-solving and ability to uncover elusive information to support her clients’ defenses. Significant wins include obtaining the historic military specification that proved a specific gasket was asbestos-free (dismissal in a case where the demand had been $3/1 million), demonstrating to the court that plaintiff-produced records of sales to an employer proved no delivery of materials to any site where plaintiff worked (summary judgment granted), and developing the complete history of seven Dutch merchant marine vessels (proving significant alternate exposure to assist clients in early resolution).
In law school, Elizabeth was an editor with the Michigan Journal of International Law. She also served as co-chair of Student Funded Fellowships, a proud Michigan Law tradition since 1977. SFF awards competitive grants to 1L law students focused on careers in public service who work in public service summer jobs. (2Ls can now receive Michigan Law’s Public Service Guarantee stipends and no longer need SFF funding—Elizabeth attributes the creation of this program in part to the success of SFF.) While at Penn State, Elizabeth served on the board of Collegian, Inc. an independent, non-profit corporation that provides rewarding educational experience for the student staff members of the three Collegian publications.
Outside of law, Elizabeth is a board-certified health and wellness coach (NBC-HWC). She is also a well-qualified yoga instructor, NASM certified personal trainer, and ACE certified group exercise instructor. Elizabeth has finished more than 100 half marathons and raised $50,000 for charities that fight cancer, including the American Cancer Society, Imerman Angels, Noah’s Light Foundation, and Susan G. Komen.
