Biography
Amy Callaghan is a partner in the Chicago office of Sinars Slowikowski Tomaska where she focuses her practice on defense of toxic tort/environmental, product liability, construction negligence, construction defect and general negligence claims.
Amy has represented manufacturers, distributors, contractors and premises owners in asbestos personal injury actions and product liability cases. She is adept at working and coordinating with insurers, insureds, in-house and national counsel in developing early defense strategies to achieve successful resolution of cases. Her experience includes defending clients through mediation, at pre-trial conferences and negotiating settlements on their behalf, comparing and leveraging against prior settlements to lower settlement values. She has experience in preparing and defending clients’ corporate representatives at depositions and has a wealth of experience in drafting and responding to discovery requests, including working with the client to formulate answers and objections to achieve consistency with past responses. She has taken numerous depositions of witnesses including treating physicians and experts, and is responsible for all aspects of case management including motion practice, discovery, expert retention, pre-trial conferences and trial preparation. Amy has orally argued dispositive motions including successful arguments on motions to dismiss based on statute of limitations.
In law school, Amy received a Distinction of Honors in Legal Research.
